Our Ethical Philosophy

Our ancient cultures have a treasure trove of crafts rooted in sustainable practices, now experiencing a resurgence, rediscovery, and re-appropriation, gaining global recognition. However, these artisans, holders of centuries-old knowledge, face challenges such as dwindling demand, inadequate wages, and limited resources.

Isbandh emerged from extensive research and collaboration with local artisans and experts in Kashmir. We have connected with remarkable artisans who have remained under the radar, practicing breathtaking age-old crafts but lacking access to the tools needed to reach a modern online audience.

Setting The Standard

Inspired by this timeless wisdom, our products are meticulously handmade by progressively adopting "The Isbandh Standard," a set of following guiding principles:

Artisan Empowerment

We prioritize the empowerment of artisans, valuing their skills, knowledge, and creativity.

We work closely with them, fostering fair and respectful collaborations that promote their well-being and professional growth.

Sustainable Sourcing

We carefully select materials that align with our commitment to sustainability.

From natural fibers like Chanderi to responsibly sourced raw materials, we strive to minimize our environmental footprint and support eco-conscious practices, by maintaining a low stock and making made to measure products, while minimising wastage.

Ethical Production

Our production processes adhere to ethical standards, ensuring safe and fair working conditions.

We prioritize transparency, accountability, and respect for the rights and dignity of every individual involved in the creation of our products.

Elimination of child labor.

Fair wages.

Women’s Rights

We prioritise women’s legal and physical social mobility by providing leadership opportunities to our female artisans.

We are committed to ensuring equal remuneration for women, ensuring they receive fair compensation comparable to their male counterparts in similar positions or roles.

Cultural Preservation

We honour and celebrate the cultural heritage embedded in our crafts.

By preserving traditional techniques, patterns, and designs, we contribute to the continuation of centuries-old traditions and help sustain cultural diversity.

Quality Craftsmanship

We uphold the highest standards of craftsmanship, investing time and attention to detail in every piece we create.

Our commitment to quality ensures that our products stand the test of time, becoming cherished heirlooms. Collaborations, partnerships, and community initiatives, are at the core of our ethical philosophy.

Embracing "The Isbandh Standard," we seek to create objects that embody the essence of our heritage, inspire mindful consumption, and foster a connection between the past and the present.
